In a bid to reduce the housing deficit and provide affordable accommodation for residents, the Zamfara State Government has announced plans to complete several abandoned housing projects and initiate new estates in Gusau, the state capital.
Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration is prioritizing the revival of three major housing estates abandoned by previous governments — two in Daza and one in the Tsauni area. According to the Director-General of Media and Communication to the Governor, Mr. Nuhu Anka, the state is committed to delivering fully serviced homes complete with essential infrastructure such as access roads, potable water, electricity, and sanitation facilities.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, Anka revealed that negotiations were underway with labour unions and the Mortgage Bank to facilitate the completion and allocation of the estates to eligible beneficiaries.
“Our goal is to ensure that civil servants in Zamfara no longer retire without owning a home. That is why we are also reintroducing the owner-occupier housing policy with fair subsidies to make home ownership more accessible,” Anka said.
In addition to finishing the abandoned projects, the state government is finalizing plans to launch two new housing estates and two layout schemes within Gusau in 2025.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize urban development and create sustainable living environments across the state.
