The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has assured that the 50 individuals detained for vandalizing manhole covers on Abuja’s roads will be prosecuted.
The suspects were caught with 25 stolen manhole covers and solar streetlights.
In a statement on Monday, Wike stressed that the suspects would face the full force of the law as a deterrent to others. He further promised that those who buy or use stolen public infrastructure would also be apprehended and prosecuted for economic sabotage and endangering public safety.
Wike commended the swift actions of security agencies and emphasized that the FCT Administration’s zero-tolerance stance on vandalism and other criminal activities would continue. He also praised residents who have shown patriotism by reporting such crimes, urging FCT residents to continue using social media to expose criminals and help protect public amenities
