The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has strongly refuted circulating rumors regarding his health, dismissing claims that he was flown to London on a medical emergency.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Wike assured Nigerians that his health remains robust, which is why he is able to fulfill the demanding responsibilities of his office without interruption.
“God has given me good health, that is why I have the energy to do what I am doing,” Wike stated, countering earlier speculations fueled by social media reports suggesting a medical crisis.
The former Rivers State Governor emphasized his commitment to his duties, pointing out that his consistent visibility and active engagement in public functions contradict any claims of ill health. His media aide, Lere Olayinka, also weighed in on the matter, categorically denying any health issues and ridiculing the rumors.
Olayinka questioned the logic behind the allegations, noting that Wike was reportedly “flown to London on Thursday night for urgent medical treatment,” only to return the next day to visit multiple communities in Abuja. He took to the X platform (formerly Twitter) to highlight the absurdity of the claims, stating, “They are saying that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, was rushed to London for medical attention on Thursday night. They are even quoting time and Aircraft Number. Sebi Wike was flown to London on Thursday night for urgent medical treatment and he used Witchcraft to come back on Friday to visit Dape Community in Life Camp area, Gishiri, and Pigba Sama communities in Abuja on Friday. The Minister will also use Witchcraft to come back to Abuja on Monday to start commissioning road projects.

Olayinka expressed frustration with critics who, despite Wike’s constant presence and active role in public service, continue to cast doubt on his well-being. “People who have not done any medical check-up in the last ten years are jumping up and down on the health of a Minister that is seen every day, doing his job. Make una KONTINU,” he wrote, mocking the unfounded allegations.
Wike’s public denial and his aide’s sharp rebuttal aim to put an end to the speculation and refocus attention on his ongoing efforts to drive development within the FCT. By maintaining a visible and hands-on approach to governance, Wike has sought to demonstrate his capability and discredit any doubts about his health.
