Wike Approves N1.1 Billion Compensation for Airport Road–Kuje Expressway Project

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the sum of N1.1 billion for compensation to property owners affected by the ongoing construction of the Airport Road to Kuje expressway in Abuja.

Wike announced the approval during an inspection of the project site on Tuesday.

He assessed the structures, including 13 buildings and factories, marked for demolition along the road corridor.

The six-lane dual carriage expressway, which is being constructed by Arab Contractors, aims to improve connectivity in the region. Wike stated that the funds would be disbursed promptly to facilitate the project’s timely delivery.

“I have reviewed the valuation of the properties affected and personally inspected the structures. I am satisfied with the assessment and will ensure immediate disbursement of the N1.1 billion compensation,” Wike said.

He emphasized that clearing the financial obligations was crucial to preventing delays and ensuring that the contractor could proceed without excuses.

In addition to the expressway project, Wike inspected the ongoing construction of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal and its feeder road. He expressed satisfaction with the progress and projected that the court complex would be completed and handed over by September 2025.

The minister also highlighted the May 2025 deadline for the completion of the Asuquo Okon Road (Road CN8) project, which connects Obafemi Awolowo Way to Olusegun Obasanjo Way, including adjoining roads within the Daki Biyu District.

“I am very impressed with the pace of work. By September 2025, the court complex will be ready, and the feeder roads will meet the May 2025 target,” Wike assured.

The initiatives underline the FCT Administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and efficient project execution in Abuja.
