Two-Storey Building Collapses in Delta State, Workers Trapped

A two-storey building under construction in Okpanam community, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, collapsed during a heavy downpour on Saturday, trapping several workers inside.

The building, situated opposite Asaba Airport and adjacent to a former SARS police station, fell following intense rainfall that caused significant panic among nearby residents. Witnesses reported that some trapped workers have been rescued, but the search for others is ongoing.

One worker, identified only as Unor, confirmed that several individuals were injured while attempting to jump from the second floor to escape. Those with severe injuries have been rushed to the hospital.

Unor also noted that many individuals have fled the site due to fears of potential police intervention, while local residents helped with the rescue efforts.

The state Commissioner for Housing, Godknows Agele, has not responded to requests for comment regarding the incident as of the time of this report.
