Traders at New Gbagi International Market in Ibadan, represented by the New Gbagi Petty Traders Association, have reported the deaths of two members and 27 hospitalizations following recent demolitions at the market.
The state government has begun demolishing several shops, sparking significant unrest among the traders.
Engineer Kolawole Oyewole, Chairman of the association, disclosed these tragic developments and the traders’ ongoing protests. They had previously appealed to both the Olubadan and Governor Seyi Makinde for intervention.

Oyewole has called for an immediate halt to the demolitions and compensation for the damages incurred. He emphasized the need for a suspension of further demolition activities to facilitate meaningful discussions.

“Our means of livelihood have been destroyed, and we have lost two of our members,” Oyewole stated. “We speak for ourselves, and we hope our concerns will be addressed promptly.”
