President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has restricted the number of vehicles allowed in the official convoys of Federal Government Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies to a maximum of three, as part of the government’s cost-cutting measures.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the directive on Thursday, stating, “No additional vehicles will be assigned to them for movement.”
This decision is part of a broader effort by the Federal Government to reduce the cost of governance, considering the current economic realities.
In a similar move in January, Tinubu ordered a reduction in the size of entourages for official trips. Foreign trips, which previously included up to 50 officials, were limited to 20, while local trips were capped at 25. The Vice President’s entourage was also reduced to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for local travels.
In the latest directive, Tinubu has also restricted the number of security personnel assigned to ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies. Each official will be accompanied by a maximum of five security personnel, consisting of four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer. “No additional security personnel will be assigned,” Onanuga noted.
Additionally, Tinubu has tasked the National Security Adviser with coordinating with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to evaluate further reductions in the deployment of vehicles and security personnel. All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, reflecting the urgency and importance of these changes.
