A renewed land dispute between Gabapentin and Kashi-Koko villages in the Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State has escalated into violence, leading to the death of one person and injuries to several others.
The conflict, which reignited on Saturday, stems from a long-standing territorial disagreement between the two communities. According to eyewitnesses, the clashes have intensified, raising fears of further bloodshed if urgent action is not taken.
A local resident, speaking anonymously, confirmed that tensions remain high, with sporadic violence still occurring. The resident called on Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Yahaya Abubakar, as well as security agencies, to intervene and restore peace before the situation worsens.

“We have been dealing with this land issue for years, and now it has led to another tragic loss of life. We need immediate intervention from the government and security forces to prevent more casualties,” the source said.
This latest incident recalls a similar land dispute in 2018 between the communities of Anfani and Gaba, which resulted in multiple deaths, injuries, and significant property destruction.
As of Monday, neither the state government nor the Niger State Police Command has released an official statement regarding the ongoing violence. Residents, however, continue to urge authorities to take swift action to prevent further escalation and restore calm to the affected areas.
