The Senate has confirmed Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche as the substantive Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
His confirmation followed a review by the Senate Committee on Interior, led by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, after President Bola Tinubu submitted his nomination last week.

Nwakuche, who replaced Haliru Nababa in an acting capacity on December 13, 2024, previously served as Deputy Controller General (DCG) in charge of Training and Staff Development. He is also a fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and holds the MFR national honour.
Jailbreak Concerns
Following his confirmation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged Nwakuche to address frequent jailbreaks, citing a recent security breach at the Koton-Karfe Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kogi State, where 12 inmates escaped, leading to the death of a prison officer.
The Senate has referred the matter to the Committee on Interior for investigation, with a report expected within a week.
