Sanwo-Olu Unveils Twin Housing Projects in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Transforming Notorious Slum

On Friday, the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State was the scene of transformation as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated two new housing projects, Raymond Estate and Sterling Heights, aimed at revitalizing the Ajelogo area, known for its high crime rates.

Governor Sanwo-Olu officially commissioned the 170-unit projects, which were delivered through a Joint Venture Partnership with a private developer, and praised the local council chairman, Hon. Dele Oshinowo, for his role in advancing urban regeneration and combating crime.

Raymond Estate features 32 three-bedroom apartments, 16 four-bedroom apartments, and 16 two-bedroom apartments. Sterling Heights includes eight blocks of 64 flats, 32 terraced homes, and 10 semi-detached apartments.

Sanwo-Olu hailed the projects as a testament to the effectiveness of local government autonomy in Lagos. He emphasized that these developments represent a significant improvement in living conditions and are a direct result of transparent and accountable governance.

“This initiative underscores the successful application of Local Government resources to provide quality housing and transform previously neglected areas into thriving communities,” Sanwo-Olu stated. He commended Oshinowo for his effective leadership and noted that such projects align with Lagos State’s goals of enhancing housing, healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

In his remarks, Oshinowo highlighted the role of the council-owned Property and Investment Board (PIB) in facilitating the housing initiative, which aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of providing affordable and quality housing. He also announced the launch of a digital property registry to document the LCDA’s real estate assets.

Senator Tokunbo Abiru praised the projects as evidence of dedication to grassroots governance, emphasizing their impact on local economic growth and job creation.

Sanwo-Olu reiterated his commitment to supporting youth development and enhancing the overall quality of life in Lagos, underscoring the transformative potential of such housing schemes for the city’s socio-economic development.
