Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated his administration’s dedication to fostering sustainability and social inclusion in the real estate sector, while urging stakeholders to embrace innovation for the industry’s advancement.
Speaking at the 5th Lagos Real Estate Marketplace Conference and Exhibition on Tuesday at the Expo Hall of Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Sanwo-Olu underscored the critical role of real estate in driving economic growth, promoting social equity, and enhancing urban planning.
“Real estate is not just about structures; it is a cornerstone of our economy, a driver of social equity, and a critical element in sustainable urban planning,” the governor said.
Themed “Reimagining Lagos Landscape and Ensuring Sustainable Real Estate Development Practices,” the conference provided a platform to discuss transformative strategies for the sector. Sanwo-Olu highlighted his administration’s initiatives in renewable energy, technology-enabled urban planning, and intermodal transportation systems, which aim to reshape Lagos’ real estate landscape.
He also stressed the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving these goals. “Collaboration is critical for driving innovation, financing sustainable projects, and creating inclusive regulations. These partnerships ensure that opportunities are accessible to all, including women, youth, and marginalized communities,” he noted.
Regulatory Framework Key to Sector Growth
Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, emphasized the need for robust regulations to ensure safety, quality, and sustainability in the sector.
“Regulations are the foundation of a well-ordered society, and in the real estate sector, they play an even more critical role. They set standards for development and ensure that projects meet benchmarks that protect lives and investments,” Akinderu-Fatai said.
The conference brought together policymakers, industry experts, and investors to deliberate on innovative solutions for the real estate industry in Lagos.
The event underscored the state government’s commitment to building a sustainable and inclusive urban environment, positioning Lagos as a model for equitable and prosperous development.
