Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, Chairman of Housing and Habitat Committee, House of Representatives, has been named the Housing Friendly Legislator of the Year 2024 at the prestigious Africa Housing Awards in Abuja.
“This award is not just about me,” Jibrin stated. “It is a shared victory with my dedicated committee members, the House of Representatives, and all stakeholders committed to transforming the housing sector. I especially thank Speaker Abbas, a strong advocate of housing, whose support has been instrumental to our achievements.”
Jibrin emphasized that the future of Nigeria’s housing sector lies in reforming archaic laws that have stifled progress and innovation.
He pledged to sponsor legislation aimed at modernizing and professionalizing the sector, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness to the growing demands of Nigeria’s rapidly urbanizing population.
“As legislators, our role is to create an enabling environment where every citizen can access quality housing, regardless of their socio-economic background. Housing is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about building thriving communities where families can grow and our youth can secure a future,” Jibrin remarked.
The lawmaker also highlighted the importance of collaboration, pledging continued partnership with government agencies, private developers, and other stakeholders to drive innovation and sustainable practices in the housing sector.
In his closing remarks, Jibrin extended his appreciation to the Africa Housing Awards and its coordinator, Festus Adebayo, whom he praised for his relentless dedication to advancing the housing sector in Nigeria.
“Mr. Festus Adebayo is a workaholic, courageous, and forthright advocate for housing development. He has tirelessly championed the cause of affordable housing, and his efforts have not only inspired us but also given the sector a much-needed push. I fondly refer to him as ‘Mr. Housing’ for his unmatched passion and commitment to this important cause,” Jibrin said.
The Africa Housing Awards 2024 brought together policymakers, housing professionals, and industry leaders, recognizing significant contributions to addressing Africa’s housing challenges and fostering sustainable urban development.
Hon. Jibrin’s recognition further underscores his impact and commitment to driving legislative reforms for a better housing future in Nigeria.
