Real Estate Tycoon Nicholas Ukachukwu Clinches APC Guber Ticket in Anambra

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Nicholas Ukachukwu, a respected businessman and property developer, secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Anambra State. The primary election took place at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka and attracted significant attention.

Ukachukwu was declared winner by Governor Bassey Ewa of Cross River State, who served as Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee for Anambra. Initially, seven aspirants entered the race. However, three of them—Paul Chukwuma, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, and Chukwuma Umeoji—pulled out before the voting began. They cited irregularities and alleged bias in the process.

Despite the controversy, the election moved forward. A total of 1,630 accredited delegates cast their votes. Ukachukwu won by a large margin, securing 1,455 votes. His closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo, received 67 votes. Johnbosco Onukwo followed with 26 votes, while Edozie Mmadu finished with 8 votes.

After the results were announced, Ukachukwu expressed gratitude for the peaceful conduct of the primary. He thanked the party leadership and delegates for their trust. Speaking confidently, he promised not to let the APC or the people of Anambra down in the upcoming general election on November 8, 2025.

The night was not without tension. Security was tight around the venue. Armed officers, including police and civil defense, were present to maintain order. Although the atmosphere was tense at times, no major disruptions occurred.

Ukachukwu’s emergence as the APC flag bearer is seen as a pivotal moment for both the party and the state. His background in real estate and previous role as a member of the Federal House of Representatives adds weight to his candidacy. Many political observers believe his experience could shift the dynamics of the race.

With the ticket secured, Ukachukwu faces the next phase of his journey. He must now unite the party, address the concerns of those who withdrew, and present a compelling vision to the people of Anambra. Supporters are already celebrating his win, while the wider electorate watches closely as the race to the Government House gains momentum.
