The Founder of Atmosphere For Favour Landport Global Estates Ltd, Prof Osim Okemmuo, has said Nigeria needs more private sector involvement to drive the potential in the mortgage system.
Okemmuo, who is also the National Developer of the World Agritourism Nigeria, pointed out that the mortgage system has the potential to solve the housing challenge and drive housing development and economic growth, if well managed.
He stated this in Awka on Friday, during the distribution of parcels of land to all registered realtors of the firm, where hundreds of realtors instantly became landlords and landowners.
He said the gesture was targeted at promoting the mortgage system for housing development in the country and tackling its challenges with the aim of helping people to become landlords by owning their own houses.
While performing the official handover exercise of the parcels of land to the beneficiaries, Okemmuo indicated his willingness to gift more lands to future realtors who register with the firm so as to drive housing development.
Addressing journalists, the Ebonyi State born developer, said, “We are giving out these lands to our realtors as part of efforts to mitigate the difficulties in obtaining land and registering land titles, making it hard to secure mortgages.
“The mortgage system in Nigeria is facing challenges, which hinders its potential to drive housing development and economic growth. The legal framework governing mortgage financing is often ineffective, leading to delays and disputes. This gesture is also part of taking away burdens from relevant agencies. I learnt that life functions more when you intentionally discipline yourself to be genuine, unselfish and willing to assist the government and humanity by connecting people to ways of success.
“When I promised that I would be giving lands to all the realtors of our company, people thought it was a scam. It was strange and unbelievable because people poison, kill people for the sake of land. Land should not be a curse, but a blessing because everything we eat, produce for use comes from land. Today, the first batch of all our realtors have received lands of their own in a choice place in Awka Anambra State, the second batch will be receiving their own land at Delta State or any part of the country of their choice.
