The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Dr. Solomon Arase, has recently warned police officers against meddling in land matters and debt collection. He said that the police have no business getting involved in these issues, which should be handled through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
Arase made the warning in Abuja recently when he received the national leadership of the Police Community Relations Committee(PCRC).
Arase said that he was concerned about the increasing number of human rights abuses by police officers. He said that there must be consequences for misconduct and benefits for exemplary behavior. He also said that he would strive to ensure that police operations conform with rules of engagement.
The national chairman of the PCRC, Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniya, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Arase as the chairman of the PSC. He said that Arase was the best person for the job.
Olaniya said that the PCRC was vigorously building on the legacies that Arase established as the 18th Inspector-General of Police. He said that the committee now has offices outside the country, such as in Canada and the United Kingdom.
