The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has appointed a full Board of Directors for Polaris Bank Limited, marking a major transition for the bank and highlighting the successes of its new management.
This move underscores the bank’s commitment to sustained growth and digital transformation.
The newly constituted 10-member board is chaired by Dr. Kassim Gidado, a seasoned academic and expert in engineering, project management, and strategic development. His leadership will be instrumental in guiding Polaris Bank’s future.
Dr. Gidado has previously held prominent roles, including Group Managing Director and Chief of Staff at MAG Group Limited, where he oversaw operations across 35 countries.
His experience in public-private partnerships and infrastructure development positions him to lead Polaris Bank into its next phase of growth.

Mr. Kayode Lawal, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Polaris Bank, expressed confidence in the diverse expertise the new board brings, stating that their leadership will play a key role in the bank’s strategic initiatives, aimed at positioning Polaris Bank as a leading digital institution in Nigeria.

The new board members come from diverse backgrounds, bringing valuable insights and experience:
Dr. Akwa Effiong Okon, with a doctorate in law and experience as a Special Assistant on Finance and Managing Director at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), offers in-depth knowledge in financial governance.
Mallam Ambursa Abubakar Umar is an expert in enterprise transformation and development finance with over 30 years of experience in banking. His background includes roles in risk management and product development.

Mrs. Ayaba M. Ayo-Joseph, a veteran of the banking industry with over three decades of experience, brings extensive expertise in corporate management and business development, having served as an Executive Director at Bank PHB during critical transitional periods.
Mrs. Giwa-Amu Subulade Ibironke, with over 27 years of experience in financial services and real estate, will leverage her skills in corporate transformation and strategic management to support the bank’s corporate banking initiatives.
Dr. Onosode Christopher holds a doctorate in economics and energy and has over 30 years of experience in business systems analysis and strategy.
His career includes significant contributions to multinational companies such as Shell Petroleum and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
