Oyo State Declares Zero Tolerance for Land Grabbing

At a stakeholders’ forum hosted by the Oyo State Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development (OYMASED) at the University of Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting property rights and addressing environmental issues.

The governor, represented by Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal, stressed that illegal land acquisitions would no longer be tolerated under the state’s anti-land grabbing law.

“Illegally taking possession of another individual’s land is a criminal offense,” Makinde stated. “Such actions will no longer be tolerated and are now punishable under the state’s law.”

Makinde also highlighted concerns about unregulated cattle grazing and pledged to hold violators accountable. The enforcement of legal proceedings for these offenses will be overseen by Justice Aderonke Aderemi, Chairperson of the Rule of Law Enforcement Agency.

The forum also focused on reviving traditional Yoruba values, including respect for elders, honesty, and hospitality. Participants expressed concerns over the erosion of these cultural principles and called for renewed efforts to restore them.

Justice Aderemi further urged citizens to uphold the rule of law and embrace values that align with Governor Makinde’s vision for institutional reform and a more orderly society.

The stakeholders’ forum marked a significant step in the state’s efforts to address property disputes, environmental challenges, and the preservation of cultural values.
