Ondo State Launches Water Channelization Project to Serve 500,000 Households

The Ondo State government has embarked on an ambitious water construction and channelization initiative aimed at providing clean water to 500,000 households, benefiting approximately two million people across the state.

During a stakeholders’ meeting on urban water reform and sanitation, held at the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) in Akure, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation, and Hygiene, Sunday Akinwalere, highlighted the project’s dual goals of enhancing sanitation and creating job opportunities for skilled workers in the state.

“This project is not just about providing clean water; it’s about transforming our state,” Akinwalere said. “We need the support of every resident and stakeholder to make this initiative successful. It’s a comprehensive effort that aims to improve hygiene and create job opportunities.”

In addition to the water projects, the state is also installing modern toilet facilities in strategic locations to promote better hygiene and enhance the state’s aesthetic appeal.

“For over 30 years, the issue of inadequate potable water supply has plagued our communities. With the governor’s approval, we are finally addressing this problem head-on. This project will significantly improve the quality of life for our people,” Akinwalere added.

The initiative’s ambitious target is to provide access to clean water for 500,000 households, impacting around two million individuals. “This is a monumental task, but it is one we are ready to undertake,” he stated.
