Ogun State to Allocate 200 Housing Units at Kobape Phase III Next Week

The Ogun State Government will commence the allocation of 200 housing units to subscribers of the Kobape Phase III housing scheme starting Monday next week.

This announcement was made on Thursday by the Commissioner for Housing, Alhaji Jamiu Akande Omoniyi, during a press conference detailing the activities of his ministry.

Commissioner Omoniyi emphasized that the housing policy of the Dapo Abiodun-led administration is designed as a social service rather than a profit-making venture. It aims to serve the people of the state and those in the diaspora who wish to live and work in the Gateway State.

Addressing the controversies surrounding the allocation process, Omoniyi stated that out of the 200 subscribers, 110 will receive their allocation letters on a first-come, first-served basis starting Monday. He urged subscribers to check for their names and noted that 36 defaulters would have their deposits refunded.

“Out of the 200 subscribers of Kobape Phase III who have been writing and defaming the government, we will be allocating 110 housing units immediately. These allocations are based on individual circumstances and, importantly, on a first-come, first-served basis,” Omoniyi said.

“From our records, 36 subscribers defaulted, and decisions have been made to refund them immediately. Although there is a clause in their allocation letter stating a 10 percent deduction as administrative charges, Prince Dapo Abiodun has magnanimously waived this. They will receive their refunds in full.”

The commissioner also mentioned that the remaining 54 subscribers would receive their allocation in the next batch, as their files are currently being reviewed by the Ministry of Finance and Internal Audit.

“As soon as that is sorted out, we will undertake and complete the construction of 27 blocks of 2-bedroom bungalows within two to three months. The houses will be delivered promptly.”

Omoniyi highlighted Ogun State’s achievements in providing affordable housing, noting that under Prince Dapo Abiodun’s administration, the state has built more than 4,000 housing units since its inception, surpassing the combined efforts of previous administrations since 1976.

“When others were selling their 2-bedroom units at N15 million, our benchmark was N5.5 million in 2019. The government fully subsidized major inputs in the delivery of these houses. What subscribers paid for was just the buildings alone, as the government provided the land and infrastructure for free,” he added.

The commissioner further announced that three estates in Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, and Ilaro, with a combined total of 500 housing units, would be commissioned soon, as construction has been completed and the houses are currently being painted.
