NSE Advocates Sustainable Engineering Practices on World Engineering Day

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has emphasized adopting sustainable engineering practices to minimize waste, conserve energy, and protect ecosystems.

Speaking at the 2025 World Engineering Day celebration in Lagos, NSE Lagos Branch Chairman, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, highlighted engineering’s vital sustainability role.

She stressed that sustainable development is more critical than ever in Lagos, a rapidly expanding megacity with pressing infrastructure and environmental challenges.

“As engineers, we must address population growth, infrastructure deficits, climate change, and ensure equitable access to essential resources,” Kesha stated firmly.

She urged professionals to adopt innovative technologies, enhancing infrastructure resilience while reducing environmental impact through strategic and sustainable engineering solutions.

Kesha encouraged mentorship of young engineers, fostering leadership in sustainability while collaborating with government, industries, academia, and civil society stakeholders.

She reaffirmed the NSE Lagos Branch’s commitment to championing sustainable engineering policies while empowering members to create long-term impacts.

Describing World Engineering Day as a catalyst for action, she stressed engineers’ responsibility to drive innovation, sustainability, and future progress.
