The Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) is gearing up for its 54th Annual Conference and General Meeting, a significant event slated to take place from Tuesday, August 20th, to Friday, August 23rd, 2024, at the Wonderland Event Centre in Awka, Anambra State.
The conference, themed “Building Profession Practices and Sustainable National Development,” is expected to draw over 3,000 stakeholders, making it a landmark gathering for the construction industry.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, NIOB National President Bldr. Alderton Ewa Ewa emphasized the conference’s importance as a platform for industry professionals to exchange knowledge, explore innovative solutions, and collectively shape the future of sustainable building practices in Nigeria.
“We anticipate a turnout of more than 3,000 participants, including key industry leaders,” Ewa Ewa stated. He highlighted the conference’s potential impact, noting that it offers a unique opportunity for collaboration and knowledge sharing that will drive the sector forward.

Ewa Ewa further underscored the construction industry’s critical role in contributing to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), linking its performance directly to national development and sustainability. He stressed the need for policies that promote sustainable building practices, advocating for intentional efforts to develop and implement environmentally friendly construction materials and methods.
The NIOB President also called attention to the importance of harnessing local resources, suggesting that prioritizing locally sourced materials would not only reduce the industry’s carbon footprint but also bolster local economies.
The conference will also focus on the latest advancements in energy efficiency, with discussions on how energy-efficient designs and technologies can minimize energy consumption in homes. Ewa Ewa reiterated that builders play a crucial role in promoting sustainable development, urging them to adopt ethical practices, prioritize quality, and stay abreast of emerging trends in the industry.
