The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a weather outlook predicting widespread thunderstorms and intermittent rains across several states in Nigeria. The forecast, issued in Abuja, highlights the potential for severe weather conditions in the coming days.
Northern Region:
Thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kaduna, Taraba, and Bauchi States during the morning hours. Later in the day, Kebbi, Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kaduna States are also expected to experience thunderstorms.
North Central Region:
Residents of Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Plateau States should prepare for intermittent rains in the morning. By afternoon, thunderstorms and intermittent rains are forecasted for the FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Kogi States.

Southern Region:
Cloudy skies are expected over the southern region in the morning, with intermittent rains likely over parts of Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States later in the day.

Tuesday Forecast:
NiMet predicts thunderstorms in parts of Taraba State on Tuesday morning, extending to Bauchi, Kaduna, Kebbi, Gombe, and Yobe States by the afternoon and evening. In the North Central region, intermittent rains are expected over Plateau and Nasarawa States during the morning, with thunderstorms and rains anticipated over the FCT, Nasarawa, Benue, and Plateau States later in the day.
Wednesday Forecast:
Thunderstorms are expected over Kaduna State in the morning, with similar conditions forecasted for Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, and Kebbi States later in the day. The North Central region will likely see intermittent rains over Niger, Benue, Plateau, and the FCT in the morning, with moderate rains expected in the afternoon and evening.
Southern Region Outlook:
Intermittent rains are predicted across parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, with a slim chance of drizzle over other areas in the morning. Later in the day, intermittent rains are expected in Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
NiMet has urged residents to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities following heavy downpours. The agency also warned that strong winds might precede the rains, especially in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. The public is advised to adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.
NiMet has recommended that residents and airline operators stay informed by regularly checking updated weather reports and forecasts from the agency for effective planning.
