NiMet Forecasts Three Days of Thunderstorms and Rain Nationwide

NiMet’s latest weather report predicts thunderstorms and moderate rains across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday.

In the northern region, Sunday morning will see thunderstorms over parts of Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba, with more widespread thunderstorms expected later in the day in states like Kaduna, Sokoto, Kano, and Borno.

In the North Central region, morning thunderstorms are anticipated over the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, and Kwara on Sunday, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms likely in Benue, Kogi, and Niger.

The southern region will experience morning thunderstorms in states such as Oyo, Imo, Enugu, Ogun, and Lagos on Sunday, followed by more widespread thunderstorms later in the day across states including Delta, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.

Moving into Monday, NiMet forecasts continue with thunderstorms and moderate rains across Taraba, Gombe, Kaduna, and southern Borno in the morning, extending to other regions like Kebbi, Zamfara, and Yobe in the afternoon.

NiMet warns of a high likelihood of urban flooding due to heavy downpours, particularly in major cities. Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone areas and take precautionary measures against strong winds accompanying thunderstorms.

For airline operators and the public, NiMet advises staying updated with weather reports for effective planning and safety measures. Adherence to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities is crucial during this period.
