The Federal Government has renewed its focus on tackling urbanization and housing challenges across Nigeria, according to the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo.
During the Africa Urban Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Gwarzo highlighted Nigeria’s strategic approach to addressing these issues, with significant investments in urban infrastructure such as road networks, water supply, and sanitation improvements.
In a statement from his media office, the minister also emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in increasing access to housing finance and reducing the nation’s housing deficit.
“Nigeria is taking a multi-faceted approach to address urbanization and housing deficit. We are implementing the National Housing Programme to provide affordable housing for low-income earners, and investing in urban infrastructure development, including roads, water, and sanitation,” he stated.

Gwarzo further pointed to ongoing efforts to strengthen urban planning systems to ensure sustainable development, while promoting initiatives like the National Housing Fund, the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, and the Urban Renewal Programme.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring well-planned, sustainable, and inclusive cities, declaring that housing is a fundamental human right that the administration must make a reality for all Nigerians.
