In a decisive move to bridge the housing gap in Niger State, Governor Umaru Bago has announced an ambitious plan to construct mass housing units, ensuring that both workers and residents have access to affordable homes.
During a strategic meeting at the Niger State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, Governor Bago engaged with the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) to map out a framework for large-scale housing development.
The Governor emphasized that the initiative aligns with the state’s 30-year development blueprint, which prioritizes agriculture and housing. As part of this long-term vision, the government is actively creating new residential layouts to accommodate the growing population.
Governor Bago’s housing plan is closely tied to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The initiative aims to build 10,000 new homes and establish 100 farm estates, fostering economic growth while addressing the pressing need for shelter.
With 64,000 plots of land already earmarked for development, the state is positioning itself as a hub for affordable housing and sustainable urban growth.
Beyond housing, the Governor revealed that his administration is working alongside the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other partners to create permanent settlements and phase out Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, offering a more stable future for affected communities.
MOFI CEO, Dr. Armstrong Takang, expressed confidence in the collaboration, highlighting its potential to not only drive housing solutions but also unlock new agricultural opportunities. He assured that long-term mortgage options would be explored to make homeownership more accessible to Niger residents.
The Executive Director of MOFI, Sani Yakubu, reinforced the government’s commitment to scaling up housing efforts, while Chairman of Niger Foods, Sammy Adigun, emphasized that the partnership would support President Tinubu’s food production goal of two million tons annually, strengthening Nigeria’s food security.
With this bold initiative, Governor Bago is setting the stage for a transformative era in Niger State—one where affordable housing and agricultural prosperity go hand in hand, shaping a more sustainable future for its people.
