Niger State Government has banned all forms of taxation on hawkers and petty traders to reduce financial hardship.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago announced the decision at the Government House, Minna, emphasizing the state’s centralized tax system.
He expressed concern over multiple taxes imposed on small-scale traders, describing such practices as exploitative and unfair.

The governor stated that hawkers and petty traders are now officially tax-free across the entire state, effective immediately.
Bago warned that anyone caught taxing these groups would face strict penalties for extortion and unlawful practices.
He directed local government chairmen and councillors to enforce the ban promptly, ensuring full compliance in all areas.
