In a bid to tackle Nigeria’s growing housing challenges, the new leadership of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), led by its President, Prince Akintoye Adeoye, has unveiled a bold agenda aimed at fostering sustainable development and raising industry standards. Central to this strategy is the creation of 24 specialized committees, each charged with driving forward the association’s mission across key areas critical to the nation’s housing sector.

During a press conference in Abuja today, Adeoye laid out the vision that will guide REDAN’s efforts under his leadership. “We are at a pivotal moment in our nation’s development,” he stated, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the housing needs of millions of Nigerians.

The REDAN President reiterated the association’s commitment to advocating for policies that support sustainable real estate growth and to establishing industry standards that ensure the long-term viability and resilience of housing projects across the country.

The formation of the 24 committees marks a significant step in REDAN’s strategy to support the federal government’s efforts in alleviating the housing deficit. The committees, composed of over 100 dedicated members from within the association, will focus on critical areas such as advocacy, transparency, innovation, professionalism, sustainability, and membership engagement.

Each committee is expected to play a crucial role in realizing the vision of REDAN’s 7th Council, ensuring that the association’s initiatives are aligned with national goals and the needs of the Nigerian populace.

Prince Adeoye expressed confidence in the collective capabilities of the newly appointed committee members. He noted that their expertise and dedication would bring about significant advancements that would not only benefit REDAN members but also contribute to the broader development of the Nigerian real estate industry.

“With this new direction in leadership, I am confident that our efforts will yield substantial achievements, positively impacting the real estate sector and the nation as a whole,” Adeoye affirmed.

In his address, Adeoye also took time to acknowledge and commend the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, for his outstanding leadership over the past year. He highlighted the Minister’s significant contributions to advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, particularly through the groundbreaking of 6,612 housing units across 13 locations nationwide under the Ministry’s Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme.

Adeoye praised the Minister’s efforts in launching the Urban Renewal and Slum Upgrade Programme, which aligns closely with REDAN’s advocacy for inclusive development. He lauded the Ministry’s partnership with Shelter Afrique Development Bank to provide 5,000 affordable housing units in the pilot phase, as well as the Minister’s vision for Housing Institutions Reforms and plans for establishing a National Housing Data Center.

“These initiatives are commendable milestones that will significantly advance the housing sector and contribute to the national agenda for sustainable development,” Adeoye remarked.

Further emphasizing REDAN’s role in the national housing agenda, Adeoye detailed the association’s efforts to serve as a unified platform for real estate developers across Nigeria. REDAN has been actively engaged in advocating for favorable policies, establishing industry standards, and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders, including government bodies, financial institutions, and community leaders.

Established as the foremost body representing the organized real estate sector—both public and private—REDAN has been recognized by the federal government since 2002. The association’s relevance is underscored in Section 2.6.2.6 of the 2012 National Housing Policy, where it is extensively referenced as a critical player in advancing mass housing initiatives for Nigerians.

Through ongoing dialogue and collaboration with the government, REDAN continues to address critical issues surrounding shelter, advocating for policies that promote accessibility to housing for all citizens.

Beyond its advocacy role, REDAN is deeply committed to safeguarding the interests of its members. The association provides comprehensive support, including legal assistance, capacity building, networking opportunities, and other measures aimed at upholding industry integrity and protecting consumer interests.

Adeoye emphasized that these efforts are vital in maintaining the trust and confidence of stakeholders in the real estate sector.

Building on this vision and mandate, Prince Adeoye has, since his election, pursued collaboration with key government officials and agencies, including the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), and the Family Homes Funds (FHF).

He has also extended partnerships to key stakeholders, including civil society organizations like the Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN), all with the aim of advancing the provision of mass housing in Nigeria.

Also in his address, Adeoye expressed gratitude to the members who have volunteered to serve on the newly formed committees. He acknowledged their crucial role in shaping the future of Nigeria’s housing sector and reiterated REDAN’s commitment to making substantial progress in the quest for affordable housing and sustainable real estate development.

“Together, we will make significant strides that will benefit not only our members but also the entire nation,” Adeoye declared.

The unveiling of this comprehensive agenda and the formation of the 24 committees mark a pivotal moment for REDAN as it continues to champion the cause of sustainable housing development in Nigeria.

With a clear vision, robust support system, and strategic partnerships in place, REDAN is poised to make a lasting impact on the nation’s housing landscape, contributing to the overall growth and development of the sector.
