The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has called on Governor Abdullahi Sule to immediately suspend the ongoing Toto/Umaisha road project, citing repeated contract violations and failure to meet agreed timelines by the contractor, Ela Engineering and Construction Nigeria Limited.
The demand was made during a budget review session held in Lafia, where the State Ministry of Works and Transport appeared before the House Committee on Works to present its first-quarter performance for 2025.
Chairman of the committee and House Majority Leader, Hon. Suleiman Azara, voiced deep concern over the project’s prolonged delay, stating that the contractor has shown a lack of capacity to deliver, even though the road was expected to be completed within one year — now entering its third year without completion.
“We cannot watch contractors undermine the developmental vision of Governor Sule. He has demonstrated commitment to infrastructure growth, and this delay is unacceptable,” Azara stated.
The committee has resolved to engage the governor directly to chart a new path forward and ensure the project is completed without further delay.
Azara emphasized the committee’s readiness to collaborate with the executive arm to uphold accountability and deliver critical infrastructure to the people of Nasarawa State.
In response, Commissioner for Works and Transport, Muazu Gosho, acknowledged the concerns raised by the lawmakers and assured them that the government is already taking steps to resolve the situation. He disclosed that discussions with the governor on the fate of the project and similar underperforming contracts are ongoing.
Gosho also thanked the House Committee for its commitment to ensuring transparency and effective project delivery across the state.
