Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, on Thursday, initiated the redevelopment of the Ijeh Police Barracks in Obalende, Lagos, a project set to deliver 2,200 modern housing units for police officers and their families.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, the governor emphasized the state’s commitment to tackling the housing deficit and improving the welfare of security personnel. He described the redevelopment as a transformative initiative to provide safe and conducive living conditions for police officers.
“For decades, this barracks stood as a symbol of resilience, sheltering officers dedicated to protecting our state. However, structural deterioration over time has necessitated this intervention,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Additionally, the governor handed over 260 new patrol vehicles and essential security equipment to the Nigeria Police Force and supporting agencies during the Annual Town Hall on Security.
Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, lauded the redevelopment project as a milestone in the modernization of the Nigeria Police Force, expressing gratitude to the Lagos State Government for its unwavering support.
Sanwo-Olu affirmed that the efforts demonstrate his administration’s dedication to ensuring the safety of lives and property while uplifting those who serve the state.
