Landlord Faces Charges for Cutting Off Tenant’s Electricity and Water

In front of an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, Samuel Famakinwa, aged 64, made an appearance on Wednesday, accused of disconnecting electricity and water supply from a tenant’s apartment.

The defendant stands accused of three charges related to breach of peace and unlawful disconnection.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, the alleged incidents occurred in October 2023 at No. 9, Asungbolu St., Igando, Lagos.

It is claimed that the defendant illegally disconnected electricity cables and water pipes supplying Mr. Bolaji Eniola’s apartment, who was a tenant under the defendant.

The prosecutor further alleges that the defendant’s actions were likely to cause a breach of the peace.

The charges brought against the defendant are said to contravene Sections 168 (1) (d), 247, and 340 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
