Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, has issued a stern warning to residents of the Lateef Kayode Jakande Estate in Igando, following reports of energy theft and violations of estate regulations.

Some residents were found to have bypassed electrical connections in their apartments during an enforcement exercise.

Akinderu-Fatai emphasized that engaging in unethical practices, such as bypassing infrastructure and neglecting shared facilities, is a serious violation of the rules outlined in their allocation letters. These actions disrupt the estate’s landscape, compromise communal order, and lead to costly consequences.

The Ministry of Housing has been receiving increasing complaints about energy theft, neglect of communal amenities, and failure to pay estate dues. In response, Akinderu-Fatai reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to maintaining discipline in government-owned estates, particularly those purchased through the Rent-To-Own scheme.

The Commissioner also condemned the actions of some residents who tampered with sealed apartments, stating that severe repercussions would follow for those found violating estate regulations.

The Ministry reminded all residents that maintaining the facilities in Lagos State government estates is a shared responsibility, with appointed facilities managers overseeing upkeep. They also emphasized the importance of supporting resident representatives for the sustainability of estate facilities.
