Lagos Begins Demolition of Unapproved Buildings After Amnesty Period Ends

The Lagos State Government has commenced demolishing unapproved buildings following the expiration of the amnesty period granted earlier.

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) began enforcement in Ogudu GRA, strengthening efforts to uphold urban planning laws.

A government statement on Monday confirmed the action followed the December 31, 2024, deadline for document regularization.

The LASBCA Permanent Secretary, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, said enforcement aims to restore order and prevent structural hazards.

He emphasized that property owners had ample time to obtain approvals before the state resorted to demolitions.

Officials assured that affected buildings had been marked months ago after extensive warnings, public notices, and consultations.

The demolition exercise will extend statewide as authorities reclaim public spaces and tackle issues from unregulated construction.

The Lagos government urged all developers and residents to comply with building regulations to avoid future enforcement measures.
