Kano Government Unveils Housing Plans for Flood-Displaced Residents

The Kano State government has unveiled plans to construct houses for residents displaced by recent flood disasters.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Thursday by the media aide to Governor Abba Yusuf, Sunusi Bataure.

The announcement was made during the weekly State Executive Council meeting, held on Wednesday, where Governor Yusuf emphasized the initiative’s aim to alleviate the impact of flooding on affected families.

“The provision of these homes will provide much-needed shelter for flood victims, offering them a stable place for their families,” the governor stated.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the state government also plans to supply food and non-food items to the displaced.

In a related development, Governor Yusuf revealed that the government would distribute chairs and desks to 220,000 students in basic and post-basic schools across the state as part of the first phase of a wider educational improvement program.

Expressing satisfaction with the smooth commencement of the 2024/2025 academic session, the governor assured that all school infrastructure would be rehabilitated. Additionally, free uniforms would be provided to all primary 1 pupils as part of the government’s Declaration of Emergency on Education.

Governor Yusuf urged stakeholders to collaborate towards achieving the state’s educational objectives.
