Kaduna State Partners with Huawei on Ambitious Smart City Project

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies Company, Nigeria Limited, for the development of the Kaduna State Smart City Project.

The agreement, signed at Huawei’s Beijing office, was observed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with several governors, ministers, and senior officials.

The Smart City Project aims to transform Kaduna into a safer, more efficient, and technologically advanced city. It is designed to enhance security, improve public service efficiency and transparency, boost competitiveness, and attract talent and investment to the state.

Under the agreement, Huawei will act as a strategic partner, offering solutions and technical support in various areas including unified command systems, advanced security measures, intelligent traffic management, e-government, smart education, smart healthcare, ICT talent development, renewable energy, and public transportation.

Governor Sani outlined that a joint committee would be formed to oversee the project’s implementation, including planning, funding, and technology deployment. He stressed the state’s dedication to making the project deliverable, sustainable, and beneficial to its citizens.

The governor also highlighted Kaduna’s efforts to drive economic growth through digital technology, mentioning the Kaduna State Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) and the establishment of the Kaduna Technology City. This city is being upgraded to a Smart City, complemented by a Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre aimed at empowering residents with ICT tools.

Additionally, Governor Sani discussed the “Bridging the Last Mile Initiative 2024 – 2027,” aimed at increasing digital inclusion and enabling citizens to leverage digital tools for their businesses and livelihoods.

In support of the state’s tech ecosystem, the governor recently enacted a law to position Kaduna as a leading digital technology hub in Nigeria, fostering innovation and creating exportable skills.

Governor Sani expressed his gratitude to Huawei Technologies for their partnership, which he believes will be pivotal in achieving Kaduna’s digital transformation objectives and ushering in a new era of security and prosperity for the state.
