Kaduna Government Resolves 347 Land Disputes, Provides 203 Alternative Plots

The Kaduna State Government, led by Governor Uba Sani, has successfully settled 347 farmland and plot revocation disputes in the last 17 months, providing 203 alternative plots to claimants as part of its efforts to promote fair land ownership.

The Director General of the Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS), Dr. Bashir Garba Ibrahim, revealed this in a statement issued over the weekend. Dr. Ibrahim highlighted that the Uba Sani administration has introduced a new framework aimed at preventing future disputes by integrating existing settlements into new government layouts.

To ease the financial burden on landowners, Governor Sani has approved several incentives, including a 15% discount on ground rent for early payments, installment options for customers with outstanding debts, and a 20% discount for those paying five years in advance. These measures are designed to facilitate land ownership amid ongoing economic challenges.

Dr. Ibrahim also disclosed that KADGIS is undergoing a digital transformation to expedite the processing of land titles. The goal is to issue 200 certificates of occupancy (CofOs) weekly, with 24,000 certificates already signed and ready for collection.

Additionally, Governor Sani has allocated plots of land to law enforcement officers, government staff, political appointees, and party executives as recognition for their service. The allocation includes compensations and direct selections, totaling 5,453 plots distributed across various locations from 2020 to 2024.

To further boost land acquisition and development, KADGIS is creating new layouts in different areas and regularizing 25 urban zones. Dr. Ibrahim assured clients that enhanced services, including global access to payment options and increased security for public documents, will be provided. He also called for support for the less privileged, particularly those with customary land titles, to assist them in obtaining certificates of occupancy.

The Kaduna State Government remains committed to addressing land disputes and promoting fair access to land ownership for its residents.
