Igbonna Community Mourns as Rainstorm Destroys Homes in Kwara State

Residents of Igbonna community in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State are in mourning following a devastating rainstorm that blew off the rooftops of several buildings.

The rain, which began at about 6:30 pm on Thursday, was accompanied by a heavy windstorm that caused extensive damage to buildings, trees, and electric poles in the area.

According to reports, the windstorm wreaked havoc on numerous buildings in the community, leaving residents to assess their losses. The National President of the Igbonna Descendants Development Union, A. Salami, described the incident as highly devastating after conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the damage.

“The experience is worrisome. A few houses, if any, were left untouched by the storm which emanated from the heavy rain. Some houses were completely blown off while a good number of our people’s houses were either brought down or badly damaged,” Salami stated.

He further appealed to the federal and state governments to assist the affected residents, many of whom are now homeless and in need of shelter and food.

Efforts to reach the Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee in Oyun, Dr. Waheed Ibrahim, and the Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Ojo Olayiwola, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
