The Lagos State Government has launched a Diaspora Real Estate Desk as part of its efforts to attract international investments into the state’s real estate sector.

The initiative, championed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, aims to provide a dedicated platform for Nigerians in the diaspora to explore investment opportunities in Lagos’ housing and infrastructure sectors.

Speaking at the launch event in Lagos, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of the diaspora community in driving economic growth and bridging housing deficits.

“This initiative is designed to strengthen the connection between Lagos and our diaspora community. It will facilitate seamless investment processes while boosting confidence in our real estate sector,” the governor stated.

The desk will offer services such as property verification, investment advisory, and support for partnerships between international investors and local developers. Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the project aligns with his administration’s vision for Lagos to become Africa’s model megacity and a global investment hub.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, noted that the Diaspora Real Estate Desk was established to eliminate barriers often faced by Nigerians abroad when investing in real estate back home. “We understand the challenges, including issues of trust and transparency. This platform ensures that investments in Lagos real estate are secure and profitable,” she said.

Benson-Awoyinka further added that the initiative would enhance the credibility of Lagos’ real estate market, attract foreign direct investment, and create more housing options for residents.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to regulatory reforms in the housing sector. “With the launch of this desk, we are not only inviting investments but also ensuring that our real estate sector operates at global standards. Our focus remains on providing affordable and sustainable housing for Lagosians,” he stated.

The Diaspora Real Estate Desk is expected to drive significant international interest in Lagos’ booming real estate market, positioning the state as a leading destination for global investors seeking profitable opportunities in Africa.
