Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced a N41 billion investment for the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola (SLA) Airport in Alakia, Ibadan, to international airport status.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the project on Wednesday in Ibadan, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to transforming Ibadan into a regional business hub in the South-West.

He also noted that previous upgrades to the airport have led to an increase in airlines incorporating Ibadan into their flight schedules. The modernization of the airport, Makinde explained, is critical for connecting Oyo State to the global economy and driving economic activities.
“This project is an investment in our future. While economic times are challenging, upgrading the SLA Airport will enhance air travel operations and establish a reliable transportation network for business and leisure travelers, positioning Oyo State for significant economic growth,” he added.
