The Enugu State Government has announced significant progress in the New Enugu City project, which began in October 2023.
The project is expected to reach critical stages within the next 12 to 18 months, marking a new era in the state’s development efforts.
Governor Peter Mbah shared the update on Wednesday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account during a roadshow organized by the state government in Guangzhou, China. The event aimed to engage the Nigerian diaspora and showcase the transformative potential of the New Enugu City project.

“I am thrilled to announce that our ambitious New Enugu City project has garnered overwhelming support from our Nigerian diaspora in Guangdong Province, China. During our roadshow in Guangzhou, we engaged with our people who have shown immense interest in this transformative project,” the governor stated.

Governor Mbah highlighted that the China Communications and Construction Company (CCCC), an internationally renowned firm, has been spearheading the construction efforts since the project’s inception. The firm is on track to meet the project’s key milestones.
“The China Communications and Construction Company (CCCC) has already commenced intensive work on the site since October 2023, and I assure you that critical services will be ready in 12 to 18 months. Our partnership with CCCC, one of the world’s best, and leading consulting firms from the UK, ensures that we are building a city that will compete with the best globally,” Mbah added.

The New Enugu City project, which kicked off on October 12, 2023, is set to transform the state’s landscape. The development will include residential areas, modern medical centers, sports facilities, and an innovation-driven industrial park. It will also feature dedicated power supply, a central sewage system, high-speed internet, and distinctive zones like Happy Island, Vitality Bay, and Innovation Park.
Happy Island will offer residential neighborhoods, a cutting-edge medical center, and a sports arena, while Innovation Park will serve as a hub for industrial innovation and ICT services. Vitality Bay will be home to the corporate headquarters of blue-chip companies and government offices.

Once completed, New Enugu City will provide a seamless living and working environment for residents, fully serviced with utilities such as power, water, gas, and high-speed internet.
Governor Mbah remains confident that the New Enugu City project will place the state on the global map as a center of excellence, innovation, and development.
