The Federal Government has announced that a nationwide clampdown on irregular migrants will commence on August 1, 2025.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this during a meeting with the Nigerian Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) in Abuja. He stated that a three-month grace period, starting May 1, has been granted for migrants to regularize their status.

Additionally, the new Expatriate Administration System (EAS) will take effect from May 1, with enforcement beginning August 1. The government has also introduced an immigration amnesty programme for the regularization of due processes.
Crackdown on Non-Compliant Companies
Tunji-Ojo warned that the government will not tolerate companies obstructing the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) from performing its duties. He emphasized that the NIS has full authority to enforce immigration laws and that companies must comply.
The minister also announced a review of fees to ensure sustainability in citizenship and business activities, with an official breakdown to be released soon.
