The Federal Government has begun the construction of a cutting-edge divisional police headquarters and six residential quarters for rank-and-file officers in Mpape, Bwari Area Council, Abuja.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader reforms aimed at modernizing policing in Nigeria, incorporating advanced technology, and fostering community engagement.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Yusuf Abubakar Argungu, emphasized the importance of the project in addressing the security challenges faced by Mpape and its surrounding areas.
Bolaji Kazeem, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations for the Ministry, in a statement on Sunday, highlighted that the project would enhance safety for residents and businesses while mitigating crimes like kidnapping, robbery, and other urban threats.
“The establishment of this divisional headquarters in Mpape will serve as a deterrent to criminal activities such as kidnapping and robbery, ensuring a safer environment for citizens and commuters,” Gaidam stated.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to transforming the Nigeria Police Force into a modern, technology-driven institution. “Our goal is to establish a world-class police force that operates intelligently, integrates technology, and builds strong community ties,” he added.
Alhaji Adamu Diga, the District Head of Mpape, praised the move to upgrade the existing police post to a divisional headquarters. He noted that the development would significantly boost efficiency and improve security services for the local population.
The project represents a key milestone in strengthening security infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory, reinforcing the government’s commitment to a safer and more secure Nigeria.
