The Federal Government, through the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), has commissioned a Hybrid Electric Vehicle Charging Station in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, ECN Director General, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, described the project as a sustainable facility designed to stand the test of time.
“It is a 5.5-kilowatt solar-powered station with the capacity to run on public grid supply or Solar PV,” he stated.
The facility includes a 10-kilowatt lithium battery and an 8kVA intelligent inverter for efficient charging and easy maintenance.
“This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s clean energy policy and the presidential commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” he added.
Designed with fast-charging technology, the station can fully charge an electric vehicle in about 30 minutes while supporting four vehicles simultaneously.

Dr. Abdullahi appreciated Minister Uche Geoffrey Nnaji for his support, highlighting ECN’s contributions to the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also commended the Electric Motor Vehicle Company, Nigeria’s first EV manufacturer, and ECN staff for their dedication.
The commissioning event was attended by Minister Nnaji and other dignitaries from the innovation, science, and technology sectors.
