FCTA Warns of Demolition Plans for Illegal Structures in Abuja Community

The Federal Capital Territory Administration plans to reclaim illegally occupied land in Abuja’s Institution and Research District.

Director Mukthar Galadima emphasized humane enforcement during a stakeholder meeting with indigenous communities from Zhidu, Piwoyi, and Peace Village.

Galadima stated that indigenous stakeholders were invited to discuss removing illegal structures while ensuring minimal disruption to residents.

He expressed concern that some occupants refused to vacate compensated land, depriving developers of rightful access for construction purposes.

Galadima warned that no structure would be allowed without proper building plan approval from the Development Control Department.

He stressed that the FCTA would not tolerate illegal activities, adding that removal processes would begin very soon.

An AMMC staff member clarified that indigenous structures would remain, while non-indigenous, unapproved buildings would face demolition.

Community leaders insisted compensated occupants should vacate, requesting tension-free enforcement and land reallocation for developers’ use.

Galadima and community representatives agreed to review compensation records and site conditions to resolve the situation amicably.
