The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern three-month ultimatum to owners of undeveloped properties in the Federal Capital City (FCC) to either develop their buildings or face demolition.
The administration also warned that land titles would be revoked for those who fail to comply with the directive.
In a statement signed by the Coordinator of the Abuja Municipal Management Council, Felix Obuah, and released to the media on Monday night, the FCTA explained that the directive comes in response to the growing number of shanties and illegal structures within the city, which have become hideouts for criminals, posing serious security risks to residents.
“The FCT Administration has noted with concern the rapid increase of shanties and squatters within uncompleted buildings and undeveloped plots in the Federal Capital City. These areas are being used by individuals of questionable character, creating a significant security challenge for residents,” Obuah stated.
Property owners are expected to secure and develop their plots within the next three months. Failure to do so, according to the FCTA, will result in the revocation of land titles and the demolition of the undeveloped properties.
This directive is part of the FCTA’s broader efforts to combat the security threats posed by abandoned and uncompleted structures in Abuja, with the aim of making the city safer and more orderly.
