The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has released a list of individuals and entities with outstanding debts related to land titles in Abuja, urging them to settle their dues within two weeks from the publication date, November 26.
Among the 9,532 defaulters in the first batch is former Nigerian military ruler Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), who owes N152 million for a plot of land in the high-profile Asokoro area. IBB, who served as Nigeria’s head of state from 1985 to 1993, has been given until December 10 to clear his debt.
Other notable figures on the list include Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Benue State, who is listed as owing N950,000 for a plot of land in Bazango, located on the outskirts of the capital. Additionally, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, representing Sokoto South, has an outstanding balance of N18 million for a plot of land in the Carraway Dallas district, a short distance from Asokoro.
The FCTA has warned that failure to pay the debts will result in the revocation of the land titles. Defaulters are encouraged to make payments electronically to the FCTA’s Department of Land Administration account.
Several federal agencies are also listed among the debtors, including the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), the Nigerian Navy, and the Nigeria Police Force. Other entities named include the Lagos Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, the Kaduna State Government, and State House Abuja.
The FCTA’s move highlights the administration’s commitment to ensuring compliance with land use regulations and addressing overdue payments that have long been a concern.
