Family Narrowly Escapes As Overhead Tank Collapses on House in Abaji

A family in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) narrowly escaped a devastating incident when an overhead water tank collapsed on their home in the early hours of Saturday.

Alhassan Aliyu, a former councillor representing Agyana/Pandagi ward, was at home with his family when the tank fell. Aliyu, recounting the terrifying experience, explained that he had woken up at around 3 a.m. to pump water after power was restored. Moments later, his wife alerted him to turn off the pump as the tank was full.

“I had just returned to my room when I heard a strange sound,” Aliyu said. “Before I knew it, the tank had collapsed, flooding the entire house.”

The impact of the water destroyed valuable household items, including electronics and cushions, but fortunately, no one was injured. Aliyu confirmed that his wife and five children were inside the house when the collapse occurred, but they all escaped unscathed.

Sympathizers visited the family’s home following the incident, offering their support. The event has raised concerns about the safety of overhead tanks and the need for proper maintenance to prevent such disasters.

Despite the damage, the family is thankful that no lives were lost in the terrifying event. Authorities have not yet commented on the cause of the tank’s collapse.
