The explosions destroyed several facilities at the stations, located roughly 30 nautical miles from Bonny’s coastline.
Cawthorne Channel remains a vital oil and gas hub, positioned between Bonny and Degema Local Government Areas in Rivers State.
Community-shared videos showed both flow stations engulfed in flames, with residents observing the burning sites from speedboats.
Footage conversations indicated welding heat might have sparked the fire, which quickly spread across the entire facility.

Locals reportedly alerted officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), who later visited the incident scene.
No official statements have been released yet by the NNPC or any relevant regulatory agency regarding the explosion.
Rivers State Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed ongoing investigations, with officers dispatched to the incident site.
“Yes, we’re aware. Details remain sketchy for now, but our team is currently investigating the situation,” she said.
