Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upgrading the state’s tourism destinations to world-class standards to boost economic growth and attract global visitors.

The Governor made this declaration during the 7th edition of the Hike Ekiti Mountain Safari held at Sagbonke Mountain (also known as the Mountain of Cloud) in Efon Alaaye, Ekiti State.

Describing tourism as a vital economic driver, Governor Oyebanji stated that the state was blessed with untapped natural wonders that, if properly harnessed, could substantially improve its revenue base and global reputation.

“God has given us what can fetch us money,” he said. “Sagbonke is a massive asset for Ekiti State, and it must not be wasted. We must collaborate to turn this treasure into a top-tier tourist site.”

Visibly impressed by the panoramic view and natural splendor of Sagbonke Mountain, the governor called the site a “hidden treasure” with vast potential to attract both local and international attention.

In a move toward structured development, he directed the Commissioners for Industry, Trade, Investment and Cooperatives; Arts and Culture, and the Director-General of the Bureau of Tourism Development to create a comprehensive investment plan for the mountain.

Governor Oyebanji also appealed to stakeholders, investors, and cultural custodians to join hands with the government to realize Ekiti’s tourism potential.

Earlier in the event, Wale Ojo-Lanre, Director-General of the Bureau of Tourism Development, praised the governor’s visionary approach to repositioning the state’s tourism sector. He emphasized Ekiti’s rich cultural heritage, serene landscapes, and natural wonders as unique assets capable of transforming the state into a must-visit destination for global travelers.

With this renewed focus on tourism infrastructure and investment, Ekiti State is poised to rise as one of Nigeria’s leading tourism destinations.
