Ekiti Governor Approves N70,000 Minimum Wage for Workers

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for workers in the state, effective December 1, 2024.

The decision follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government and leaders of Organised Labour. The new wage will benefit all categories of workers in the state, including pensioners.

Speaking at the signing, the Head of Service, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, stated that the governor approved the committee’s recommendations in full, demonstrating his commitment to improving the welfare of workers.

“I want to emphasize that this was a painstaking process. Mr. Governor went above and beyond to meet the yearnings of Ekiti workers. This agreement reflects the state’s financial realities while prioritizing our workforce,” Olomojobi said.

She also thanked workers for their patience and trust in the government throughout the negotiation process.

“This decision underscores the governor’s dedication to improving the standard of living for workers and retirees in Ekiti State,” they remarked.

Call for Improved Service Delivery

Dr. Olomojobi urged workers to reciprocate the government’s gesture by enhancing their dedication to public service, ensuring that the administration’s goals for development and governance are achieved.

This wage increment positions Ekiti State among the few states implementing an improved minimum wage for its workforce.
