In a groundbreaking development that is poised to reshape Nigeria’s energy landscape, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has recently commenced the production of diesel and aviation fuel.
This marks a transformative milestone for the refinery, led by the visionary Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group. Despite the successful initiation of diesel and aviation fuel production, the eagerly anticipated Petroleum Motor Spirit (petrol) is yet to make its debut.
Anthony Chiejina, Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, confirmed this exciting news late on Friday. The Dangote Group expressed heartfelt gratitude to key stakeholders, notably President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for their unwavering support in realizing this ambitious project. Aliko Dangote himself, in a statement, described the day as a true game-changer for Nigeria, emphasizing the monumental achievement and its potential impact on the nation’s future.

Situated in the vibrant Lekki Free Trade Zone, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery boasts an impressive daily refining capacity of 650,000 barrels of crude oil. The refinery’s commitment to adhering to global standards is evident, with the produced products conforming to Euro V specifications and the facility designed in compliance with World Bank, US EPA, European emission norms, and DPR emission/effluent norms.
While the refinery’s successful operations have been celebrated, Nigerians are particularly hopeful that this venture will contribute to a notable reduction in the prices of petroleum products. As the refinery continues its commendable strides, the nation eagerly awaits the day when it will unveil Petroleum Motor Spirit, marking the completion of this significant phase in Nigeria’s energy evolution.
